THE SUAS GROUP together with EIF, a.s. (Energy Investment Fund) started SUAS BESS s.r.o. Through the newly-founded company, a battery storage facility will be installed at Sokolovská uhelná, which is a sister company of the SUAS GROUP.
In the joint venture, the SUAS GROUP holds a 55% ownership share through SUAS Clean energy s.r.o., and 45% is held by EIF, a.s. The general supplier of the entire solution will be Sokolovská uhelná for SUAS BESS. Batteries will be supplied by the Dutch company Alfen.
The 7.44 MWh battery storage should provide ancillary services for the transmission system operators ČEPS, balance deviations in electricity supplies from Sokolovská uhelná, and facilitate trade on the intraday electricity market.
The SUAS GROUP was founded due to the downturn of the brown coal mining performed by its sister company Sokolovská uhelná. It has the ambition to be a modern company both as an energy group and through its presence in the fields of modern energy, development, and engineering.
As a future “smart region”, Sokolovsko has the opportunity to become a model of the future battery world. The entire chain of the battery ecosystem can be created here: from lithium mining to processing, battery production and the subsequent use of spent batteries from electric vehicles to store electricity. Building battery storage facilities is one of the fundamental pillars of the battery ecosystem.
David Najvar, SUAS GROUP board member
“Battery storage fits into the overall concept of emission-free energy development within the SUAS GROUP and is also part of the upcoming Battery Value Chain.”
Jiří Strnad, Director (CEO) of EIF in the Czech Republic
“We see the use of battery storage as a bridge between conventional and modern energy. For that reason, we will improve the parameters and capabilities of existing resources by using battery storage as a logical and economically efficient step on the path towards the transformation of the Czech energy sector.”
